What is Kuzbass?
Kuzbass is the short name for Kemerovo Oblast (officially "Kemerovo Oblast — Kuzbass"), a region in Western Siberia. Its administrative centre is Kemerovo.
When is the best time to go?
It depends on your goal: winter is ski season in Mountain Shoria, summer is for nature and riverside trips. The cities can be visited in any season.
What time zone is the region in?
UTC+7, four hours ahead of Moscow. Keep this in mind when buying tickets.
How many days do I need?
2–3 days to get to know one city and take a day trip. To see both the north and the south of the region, a week or more.
Practical questions
How do I get there without a car?
Fly to Kemerovo or Novokuznetsk, or take the train on the Trans-Siberian; within the region, use trains and intercity buses. Check timetables with the carriers.
Can I see Sheregesh and Kemerovo in one weekend?
Technically yes, but it means many hours on the road. It's better to choose one part of the region.
Should I worry about ticks?
Yes — in spring and summer, ticks are active in forests and the taiga. Consult a doctor about prevention in advance, and check yourself after walks.
Is there mobile coverage in the mountains?
Not everywhere. Download offline maps and share your route with someone close to you.
